LYNCHBURG, Va. — Averett University women's lacrosse evened out their conference record with a 25-2 victory over Randolph College on Wednesday.
Averett (3-2, 2-2 ODAC) was able to put eight shots past Randolph's (0-9, 0-5 ODAC) keeper in the first quarter alone, before scoring seven more in the second quarter to take a 15-1 lead going into halftime. Sophomore
Cayden Holdsworth opened up the second half with her seventeenth goal of the season. The Cougars followed by scoring nine more goals to wrap up the conference contest.
The Cougars' offense was led by
Faith Bowlin, with a performance four goals shy of the program's single game record. Bowlin shot a season-high 10 goals, while Holdsworth trailed with eight. Senior
Porsha Davis was not far behind with four goals. Bowlin also recorded three assists, while juniors
Gianna Minafo,
Lisanne Guiaux, and
Brianna Sams each had two.
On defense, Guiaux picked up three ground balls while Bowlin and senior
Celia de Diego followed with two a piece. Guiaux, Bowlin, de Diego, sophomore
Emma Lekander, and junior keeper
Caitlin Alperstein each had a caused turnover. Alperstein won the game with four saves in the net.
The Cougars are back home when they host Eastern Mennonite University for a conference match on Saturday at 1 p.m.
