DANVILLE, Va. – Capping off the regular season slate with a ranked matchup, No. 42 Averett University men's tennis dismantled No. 68 Randolph College, 7-0 on Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
Doubles was a true battle that lived up to the billing. Randolph (9-6, 5-4 ODAC) took doubles number one, before Averett (13-4, 8-1 ODAC) did what had to be done to win the first point. First from a 6-3 at number two, before
Florian Bert and
Martin Guyot partnered together to win 7-6, and 8-6 in the set tiebreak.
Singles went according to plan, mostly. The majority of the lineup won with ease, but a number of Cougars were pushed to the brink.
Satwik Kollepalli fought down a set versus Andreas Mulner, winning the last two sets 7-5, and 10-8 in the third set tiebreak.
Florian Bert also won in dramatic fashion, besting Jacob Martin with his own third set win, 10-7 at final.
Now having clinched the second seed in the conference tournament, the Cougars match up with seventh-seed Guilford College on Wednesday, April 30. Time is to be determined.
