FERRUM, Va. — Averett University men's wrestling had five individuals earn a spot on the 2024-25 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division All-State Team, which was announced Tuesday. Seniors
Mason Barrett and
Anthony Taylor received VaSID First Team accolades, while freshman
Andres Cortes and juniors
Xavier Swanson and
Jacob Jimenez each were named to the VaSID Second Team.
Barrett, a three-time All-American from Bealeton, Virginia, earned All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference First Team honors after he won the ODAC at 125 pounds before going on to finish third nationally at the NCAA National Championships. Ranked as high as No. 3 nationally and No. 1 regionally, Barrett went 31-5 with 23 wins by bonus points.
Taylor, a native of Richmond Hill, Georgia, also won an ODAC title at 157 pounds and was All-ODAC First Team before going on to be a national qualifier for the second consecutive season. The NCAA Region 4 runner-up was ranked regionally and nationally at 157, and he went 21-9 with 16 wins by bonus points.
Cortes, Swanson and Jimenez each earned VaSID Second Team honors after finishing as the runner-up in the ODAC at their respective weight classes to earn All-ODAC Second Team distinction. A native of Woodbury, New Jersey, Cortes placed sixth at NCAA Region 4 Championships at 149 pounds, was ranked as high as No. 8 in the region and went 24-15 with 17 wins by bonus. Swanson, a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia, placed fifth at 2025 NCAA Region 4 Championships at 165 pounds, was ranked as high as No. 6 in the region and finished 25-8 with 19 wins by bonus points. Jimenez, a native of Sterling, Virginia, was ranked as high as No. 5 in the region at 197 pounds and went 28-14 with 18 wins by bonus points. He also was a 2025 NCAA Division III Men's Scholar All-American.
