FOREST, Va. – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference announced its 2025 winter ODAC sportsmanship teams on Friday in each of the conference's eight sponsored sports for the winter campaign, in which five Averett University student-athletes were selected. Across all eligible sports, 86 student-athletes within the ODAC were honored.
The squads are composed of a student-athlete selected by the coaching staffs of each team competing under the conference banner with all sports and schools fully represented.
From Averett, men's basketball senior
Clay Hodges, men's indoor track & field freshman
Damien Patrick, women's basketball freshman
Mariah Eberhardt, women's indoor track & field sophomore
Gabrielle Griffin, and men's wrestling junior
Nolan Gerwitz were amongst the Cougars' selections.
"Sportsmanship and respect are fundamental to the ODAC's mission," said ODAC Commissioner Brad Bankston. "These student-athletes have been recognized for their commitment to fair play and respect for their opponents—qualities that deserve greater recognition. I thank these honorees for setting an outstanding example for all of us."
The ODAC has a rich tradition in promoting fair play and good sportsmanship in each sport across the league. The character of the conference's student-athletes on and off the field is a representation of not only the individuals and teams, but also the institutions for which they play.
