ASHLAND, Va. – Averett University netted six selections on the 2024-25 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) Academic All-State Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The Cougars' nominations include women's lacrosse senior Faith Bowlin, women's soccer/lacrosse senior Celia de Diego, men's volleyball/soccer junior Anibal Lopez, men's tennis senior Jaeden Mukkaladyil, women's volleyball graduate student Emma Nash and men's lacrosse senior Brayton Powers. Two in particular, de Diego and Nash, earned Academic All-State honors for the second consecutive academic year. Honorees have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 or higher and are sophomores or higher. There were 36 schools represented and 216 student-athletes honored among this year's VaSID Academic All-State Team.

Bowlin, a native of Abingdon, Maryland, started in all 11 games for the women's lacrosse team this spring. Bowlin was the conductor of Averett's offense, leading the team in goals and points with 59 and 68, respectively. For her performance off the field, Bowlin was named the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and was also selected to the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District Women's At-Large team. At Averett's Night of Champions, Bowlin was named the Female Senior Student Athlete of the Year. She majored in nursing and graduated in May.

A native of Valladolid, Spain, de Diego made 14 starts in 15 games for the women's soccer team this past fall, earning All-ODAC Second Team, and VaSID All-State First Team honors. She broke Averett's all-time program record for career goals with 53 and points with 123, and broke the conference's single-match record with nine goals and 20 points versus Sweet Briar, while also tying the NCAA Division III record for points in the same outing. Off the field, de Diego was named the 2024 ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and to the Academic All-District Team as selected by the College Sport Communicators. In the spring, de Diego was a member of the women's lacrosse team, appearing in eight games. She tallied five goals, 13 ground balls, and had 13 caused turnovers. De Diego was also selected as the Senior Female Athlete of the Year at Averett's Night of Champions. She majored in Aviation and graduated in May.

Lopez, a native of Vigo, Spain, played in 16 matches for the men's volleyball team spanning 43 sets, and was named to the All-ODAC Third Team. He led the team with 256 digs and 3.46 digs per set, the latter of which ranked third in all of Division III. Off the court, Lopez was selected to the CSC Academic All-District Men's At-Large Team, and Dr. Tommy Foster Male Student-Athlete of the Year award at Averett's Night of Champions. On the men's soccer team, Lopez appeared in two games, and had four saves. He is majoring in Health & Sports Science and plans to graduate in December.

Mukkaladyil, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, starred for the men's tennis team this past spring. A stalwart at No. 2 singles, he had the most wins on the roster with 20, including a 16-3 record at the No. 2 spot. For his play, Mukkaladyil earned All-ODAC First Team and VaSID All-State First Team honors. Off the court, he was named the ODAC/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar Athlete of the Year and won Senior Male Class Athlete of the Year at Averett's Night of Champions. Mukkaladyil also earned the top male senior GPA at Night of Champions, and was selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team. He majored in Business Administration and graduated in May.

Nash, a native of Monroe, North Carolina, appeared in 31 matches, playing 120 sets for the women's volleyball team this past fall. Nash tallied a season-high 306 total kills with a 2.55 per set average, finished first on the team with 46 service aces, and earned All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference Second Team honors. She also recorded 195 digs and topped the team with 78 blocks. Off the court, Nash earned Academic All-District honors from the CSC, and won the Barbara Kushubar Female Student-Athlete of the Year at Averett's Night of Champions. During the winter, Nash stepped into the coaching ranks, serving as an assistant coach for the men's volleyball team this past winter. She is currently attaining her Master of Business Administration.

Powers, a native of Airdrie, Alberta, Canada, started in all 17 games for the men's lacrosse team this past spring. He scored 16 goals and tallied nine assists, and broke the program record for games played with 61. Powers also finished third all-time in points with 77, fourth in goals and assists with 52 and 25, respectively. He was also selected to the CSC Academic All-District Men's At-Large team. Powers majored in sports medicine and graduated in May.
