Men's soccer announces 2025 slate with match times

| By:
DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's soccer released its fall schedule for the 2025 season, including a challenging conference schedule and an exhibition at Division I Duke University.

A matchup with Division II Shaw University is first on the docket, opening up at Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium on Friday, Aug. 29. Later that same weekend, the Cougars venture to Cary, North Carolina, to face William Peace University in a rematch from the previous season on Sunday, Aug. 31.

All Averett women's soccer home games offer free admission to fans.

Averett men's soccer head coach Philip Wilson looks for his squad to continue its upward trajectory after a clean finish to last season.

"I am excited to get the guys back and welcome the new members of the team," Wilson said. "We have a very strong group of returning players who worked extremely hard in the off-season this past spring both on the field and in the weight room. As always, the ODAC schedule is very difficult and we need to be focused on being more consistent in our performances throughout the season but I am confident with the work the team put in this past spring that we will be more competitive and consistent than last season."

Old Dominion Athletic Conference play starts at the tail-end of September with a home contest versus Hampden-Sydney College on Saturday, Sept. 27.
Featured games on the slate include Homecoming Weekend versus Randolph College on Saturday, Oct. 18, and a rematch with reigning ODAC conference champion Washington and Lee University at home on Oct. 22.

The schedule also features an exhibition matchup at nationally ranked Duke on Sept. 30, pitting the Cougars and Blue Devils against each other for the second consecutive season.

Averett finishes the 2025 campaign on the road against Shenandoah University and Eastern Mennonite University, respectively, in late October. The ODAC tournament quarterfinals are set to begin on Saturday, Nov. 1.
