GREENSBORO, N.C. – Averett University men's soccer got back in the win column, and notched its first away win of the season with a 2-0 shutout at Greensboro College on Wednesday afternoon.
Chances were limited through the first half at Pride Field, but as opportunities began to open up, the Cougars attacked most intently. Through a breakaway on Averett's attacking front,
Hudson Bradley's through ball rolled its way over to an open
Joshua Garcia on the right edge of the box, and sent a curling shot into the bottom left corner for the game's opening goal in the 29th minute.
Anibal Lopez ensured Greensboro's attacking third was a no-fly zone, knotting three saves thus far.
Through a hard-fought second half, the Pride defense allowed a roaming
Marek Hanscom to intercept the ball, and sent a strike past the goalkeeper to score his first in an Averett uniform, and double the visitors' lead in the 71st minute.
The Cougars' win over Greensboro marked their fourth straight in the series, dating back to 2021.
Despite facing more shots, Averett's defense remained firm, and Lopez ensured no score from the Pride. The senior goalkeeper kept his recent form intact with an eight-save contest, and recorded his second clean sheet this season.
Next up, the Cougars continue their away trip on Sunday, heading over to Rocky Mount, North Carolina to contest the Battling Bishops of North Carolina Wesleyan College. Start time on Sept. 14 is set for 4 p.m.
