HARRISONBURG, Va. — Averett University women's golf tied for third place at the Bridgewater College Invitational, which concluded Tuesday at Lakeview Golf Course. The Cougars shot a collective 89-over-par 665 to finish in a three-way tie on the par-72, 5,658-yard course.
Averett senior
Sophia Marshall tied for 11th individually after shooting a 6-over 72 during the final round to finish at 15-over for the tournament. Her round was highlighted by a birdie on No. 11 for the second consecutive day.
Southern Virginia University's Sydney Richards shot 1-under on the final day to finish at 2-over for the two-day event, which helped her win medalist honors. She won by four strokes over Virginia Wesleyan University's Juliette Coffey, who held the lead after Monday's first round. Richards' performance also helped Southern Virginia win the tournament in the team standings. The Knights finished the 36-hole event at 40-over to win by 16 strokes over Virginia Wesleyan. Averett, host Bridgewater and Shenandoah University all tied for third in the eight-team field.
Sophomore
Meredith Pegram also had a top-20 finish, coming in 19th place at 23-over. Senior
Hannah Walton improved her score by three strokes on Day 2 to finish at 25-over in a tie for 21st. Junior
Cooper Perryman shot 30-over and senior
Madison Masoudpour overcame a tough first round to improve her score by 15 strokes in the second round to finish 35-over.
Averett will next compete at The Melee at Ford's Colony Country Club Oct. 18-20.
