DANVILLE, Va. – Averett University women's soccer dropped its conference opening contest against Roanoke College on Wednesday night.
Averett (1-5-1, 0-1-0 ODAC) came into the match undermanned, battling injury, sickness, and the visiting Roanoke (4-4-1, 1-0-0) side to a 6-0 defeat.
The Cougars matched the Maroons early on, holding Roanoke scoreless for the first 30 minutes of action. Roanoke's attack broke through in a big way after the opening half hour, as the Maroons scored all five of their goals between the 31st and 42nd minute. The game headed into halftime with the score 5-0, and ultimately finished with the Maroons picking up one more goal late in the second half.

Krista Hinebaugh stopped some tough shots, 16 in all, helping to keep Roanoke at bay in defense of Averett's net.
The Cougars hit the road to take on Randolph-Macon College on Saturday, Sept. 27, at 4 p.m.
