Women’s golf tied for fourth after opening round at Shenandoah Fall Invite

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. — Averett University women's golf opened its fall season Friday with the opening round of the Shenandoah University Fall Invitational hosted at Cacapon Resort State Park. 

Three Cougars shot identical scores in the opening round as seniors Sophia Marshall and Madison Masoudpour and sophomore Meredith Pegram all carded a 10-over 82 on the par-72, 5,647-yard course. Marshall's day was highlighted by an eagle on the par-4 No. 14. All three are tied for 17th. 

Junior Manuela Pacheco Gonzalez was one shot back with an 83, while junior Cooper Perryman finished at 29-over. 

As a team, Averett sits in a tie for fourth place at 41-over entering Saturday's final round. Marymount University holds a 19-stroke lead on the field. Marymount's Kate Parsons leads individually after shooting 2-under.
