GREENSBORO, N.C. — A strong start to the second half helped propel Guilford College past Averett University men's basketball 76-57 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night

Guilford (9-7, 3-4 ODAC) turned a five-point lead into a 49-33 advantage with 11:59 to play thanks to a 13-0 run. Although Averett (10-5, 3-3 ODAC) made a 7-0 run of its own midway through the period, it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit. The Quakers pulled away late for their third consecutive win.

Timayahs Bracey led Averett with 11 points, while sophomore
Jalen Chambers chipped in nine points. Sophomore
Jackson Sellars had a team-high 13 rebounds with seven points and three blocks, and freshman
Tyler Stephens finished with 12 rebounds along with eight points for the Cougars.
Although Guilford opened with an 8-2 advantage, Averett eventually went ahead 18-16 on junior
Terrell Fitzgerald's 3-pointer with 6:56 left in the first half. The Quakers then responded with a 16-0 run to surge ahead to a 32-18 over the next four minutes. Although Averett ended the half on a 7-0 spurt, the Cougars still trailed 32-25 at the break.

Averett hosts Hampden-Sydney College on Friday at 5 p.m. in a game that moved up a day due to the expected wintry weather that is projected to hit the region over the weekend.
