ASHLAND, Va. — The Averett University women's volleyball team faced Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon, as they fell to the Yellow Jackets in straight sets, 3-0, at Crenshaw Gym.
Averett (1-12, 1-7 ODAC) battled throughout the opening set, and recorded 10 kills; staying competitive before Randolph-Macon pulled away for a 25-15 win. Randolph-Macon (11-7, 4-2 ODAC) carried that momentum into the second set, and earned a 25-16 victory to take a 2-0 match advantage.
The Cougars continued to compete in the third set, but Randolph-Macon closed out the match with a 25-14 win.

Sydney Mounce led Averett offensively with eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter/right side

Tahani Villines each added four kills. Freshman setter/right side
Hannah Batista paced the Cougars with 10 assists, and senior
Megan Litman contributed nine assists. Villines also led the defensive effort with nine digs, while Mounce added five.
Averett finished with 24 kills and 31 digs. Randolph-Macon recorded 36 kills and 11 service aces to secure the conference victory.
The Cougars' long-awaited return to the Grant Center comes on Tuesday, Oct. 13, when they host William Peace University at 6 p.m, in a non-conference bout.
