ASHEBORO, N.C. — Averett University baseball lost both games of a Saturday doubleheader against Greensboro College.
Â
Averett (2-2) took an early lead in Game 1, taking advantage of a Greensboro (4-1) error and a sacrifice fly from junior
Maddox Jordan to take a 2-0 advantage. The Pride went on a tear over the middle innings, jumping out to a lead that would hold until the very end, ultimately finishing in an 18-8 run rule in the seventh inning.
Â
Greensboro's terrific offensive effort continued into Game 2. The Pride ran away to a 7-0 lead after three innings. Averett strung together some runs in the fourth and fifth innings, as junior
Drew Skinner knocked a RBI double in the fourth before Jordan followed suit with a two-RBI double in the fifth inning. That would be all of the Cougars' scoring in Game 2, as Greensboro would go on to take a 16-3 win.
Â
Seniors
Austin Ford and
Luke Keister led Averett with three hits each. Jordan paced Averett with three RBIs while Junior
Jack Turner, freshman
Julian Esparza, and Skinner each added two RBIs.
Â
Averett has a chance for immediate redemption as the Cougars once again face Greensboro, with first pitch set for Sunday at 2 p.m.
