GREENSBORO, N.C. – Averett University men's lacrosse lost 27-4 at Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon.
The day got started in favor of visiting Averett (0-3), as freshman
Gabe Gallegos scored his first Cougar goal. Four unanswered then went the way of Greensboro (4-0), but junior
Zac Coleman stopped the bleeding for Averett to cut the deficit to 4-2. However, the rest of the second quarter was Pride-filled of goals, with the home team eventually holding a lead of 15-2 at half.
The following two quarters saw Greensboro lock up their fourth straight win with 12 more scores, but the Cougars did get two back from the likes of
Connor Boyd and
Giovanni D'Amico. D'Amico led the team in total points with two, attributing both an assist and score.
Sophomore long-stick midfielder
Cory Habick had the most ground balls and caused turnovers for Averett with 5 and 2, respectively. Sophomore netminder
Robbie Isenhour recorded 13 saves in net.
The Cougars' next contest remains on the road on the following Sunday, March 1, with a trip back down the North Carolina border to take on William Peace University. Start time is set for 2 p.m.
