ASHLAND, Va. — Averett University men's volleyball dropped both matches of an ODAC tri-match on Saturday, falling to Shenandoah University and No. 17 Randolph-Macon College in straight sets.
In the first match, Averett (5-20, 0-13 ODAC) fell to Shenandoah (9-12, 4-10 ODAC) by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-18. The Cougars kept things competitive early, recording 10 and 11 kills in the first two sets respectively, but the Hornets pulled away late in each frame.
Sophomore
Yerai Collazo led Averett with eight kills and added seven digs, while fellow sophomore Liam Audrian finished with nine kills. Freshman setter
Luke Brown dished out 22 assists to guide the offense.
In the second match, Averett fell to nationally-ranked Randolph-Macon (26-4, 14-0 ODAC) by scores of 25-5, 25-17, 25-13. The Yellow Jackets jumped out quickly and never trailed.
Collazo again paced Averett with eight kills, while Audrain added four. The Cougars showed improvement in the second and third sets, combining for 14 kills after being limited to just two in the opening set.
Averett hosts the University of Lynchburg and Warren Wilson College for a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 6 p.m.
