LYNCHBURG, Va. — Averett University men's volleyball fell to both the University of Lynchburg and Regent University on Saturday.
Lynchburg (7-8, 5-3 ODAC) claimed the conference matchup over the Cougars (4-13, 0-6 ODAC) with set scores of 23-25, 17-25, 25-23 and 21-25.
Sophomore Yerai Collazo led the Cougars offensively with 17 kills while fellow sophomore Liam Audrain and senior Nicholas Breen added eight a piece. Audrain also recorded two service aces.
Freshman setter Luke Brown orchestrated the offense with 33 assists, three service aces and six digs.
On the defense, Audrain and freshman Aiden Williams each added a solo block against the Hornets.
Later in the day, Averett pushed Regent () to five sets but fell 3-2. The Royals won the match 23-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-27 and 11-15.
The Cougars rallied after dropping the first set, winning the second and third to take a 2-1 lead. The fourth set featured several late lead changes before Regent pulled out a 27-25 win to force a decisive fifth set. The Royals carried the momentum into the final frame to secure the victory.
Audrain added 18 more kills, a solo block and nine digs on his day, while Collazo contributed 15 kills and nine digs. Junior Dominick Jenkins recorded ten kills and a solo block. Brown had 48 assists for the Cougars' offense and Williams added another solo block for the defense.
Averett resumes conference play on Tuesday against Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia at 6 p.m.
