WINCHESTER, Va. – No. 57 Averett University men's tennis dropped just its second conference match of the spring with a 4-3 decision at No. 39 Shenandoah University on Saturday afternoon.
Shenandoah (9-4, 3-1 ODAC) got the better of Averett (7-6, 6-2 ODAC) in doubles. Senior
Alex Donnelly and sophomore
Florian Bert won first at no. 2 doubles with a 6-2 victory over the Hornets' Shine Tokas and Lucas Beasley, but Shenandoah had the upper hand later on. Two razor-thin tiebreak wins at the first and third slots gave the home side the first point.
The Hornets took the first three singles matches, as they clinched the win. Averett did have three wins on the backend, however, starting with senior
Sam Egui at the sixth slot, a 6-1, 6-0 win versus Max Arkans. Sophomore
Roger Pamies Petit won match number 17 on the year, 6-4, 6-2 versus Siddharrth Rajagopolan.
Sophomore
Lucas Fiandra ended the dual on a high note with a three-set win versus Lucas Beasley.
The Cougars, with ODAC play concluded, head to Division-II Belmont Abbey College for a match on Tuesday, Apr. 14. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
