CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Averett University men's golf shot just six-over as a team in the final round of the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate, rising up to seventh out of 24 teams by day's end. The Cougars scored an 18-over-par 864.
Freshman Lukas Newton equaled his career-best result as he tied for eighth, following a two-over round that saw him sink five birdies and eight pars. His final score was one-under-par, which marks a season-best.
Sophomore Benjamin Afzelius evened out through three rounds with a two-over par day, and finished tied for 11th. Freshman Chase Myers also scored a plus-two round three outing, and finished tied for 35th.
Freshman Nicholas Santoso shot 15-over, and sophomore Zach Alway finished with a 20-over score.
Drew University took the team title, two strokes under par, and Swarthmore College's Dylan Zhang won the tournament at seven-under.
Averett's next tournament outing starts tomorrow through Apr. 14 at the Sam Snead Collegiate hosted by Piedmont University at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va.
