RALEIGH, N.C. – No. 61 Averett University men's tennis concluded the 2025-26 regular season with a 5-2 win at Shaw University on Sunday afternoon.
Averett (8-7) slugged through doubles; but started off clean with junior
Alex Rudy and sophomore
Lucas Fiandra bageling Shaw's (6-6) Carlos Alcala and Fernando Berrocal. Senior
Alex Donnelly and sophomore
Florian Bert were taken to the brink against the Bears' Edoardo Brustia and Andres Ayala, but completed the job with a 7-5 tiebreak win, and set. Senior
Sam Egui and sophomore
Rafael Jodas defeated a defiant Kristian Bilojelic and Franco Vedda. 7-5, as the Cougars capped off the first point.
Shaw quickly got two singles matches at the top of the lineup to turn its fortunes around. Egui quickly tied up the dual with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the sixth slot, then Fiandra won a three-set thriller over Vedda for the 3-2 lead.
Jodas sealed the deal with his 6-3, 6-2 triumph versus Alcala, then sophomore
Roger Pamies Petit won Averett's fifth point, and his team-leading 18th singles match against Ayala, 6-4, 6-3.
With the regular season concluded, the ODAC tournament is around the corner, beginning Tuesday, Apr. 29. Time and location is to be determined.
