DANVILLE, Va. – The Averett University women's soccer team played its first Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) opponent of the season Wednesday night at Daly Field, as it took on Randolph College. The Cougars fell 5-0.
The Wildcats (5-0-2, 1-0-0 ODAC) got off to a fast start, scoring early into the first half on a goal by Bailey Richardson. Richardson added two more goals before halftime, to complete her hat trick and gave Randolph a 3-0 lead heading into the break.
The WildCats added two more goals in the second half, which brought the final score to 5-0.
Averett (0-4-0, 0-1-0 ODAC) was led defensively by senior goalkeeper Krista Hinebaugh, who recorded eight saves in the first half and finished the match with 11 saves. Sophomores Gabriella Alvarado and Delaney Haymore led the Cougars offensively with one shot each.
The Cougars will face their first nationally ranked opponent of the season and fellow ODAC opponent, No. 2 Washington and Lee University on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m.
