DANVILLE, Va. – The Averett University women's soccer team played its first nationally ranked opponent of the season Wednesday night at Daly Field, as it battled against No. 2 Washington & Lee. Averett ultimately fell 9-0.
Washington and Lee (8-0, 4-0 ODAC) started off hot with an early score from a penalty kick at the 0:54 mark of the first half. The Generals were held to only two goals in the first half, through a strong showing from the Averett (0-5, 0-2 ODAC) defense.
Washington and Lee scored several goals in the second half, and brought the final score to 9-0.
Senior goalkeeper Krista Hinebaugh totaled 10 saves, which made it her fourth game of the season with double-digit stops.
Averett will face Shenandoah University on the road next on Saturday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.
