Max Roach has coached Averett's wide receivers since 2007. He also serves as the program's recruiting coordinator.

In 2009, he coached two all-conference wide receivers in Anthony Squillini and Jeremy Dixon. Squillini also earned all-state honors.

Roach joined the Cougars on the field in 2001, the year before Mike Dunlevy took the helm. Roach served as the punter for three years before making the shift to wide receiver as a senior. In his three years as a punter, Roach tallied 1,566 yards. At receiver, Roach averaged 15.7 yards per catch. His longest reception was for 29 yards and he scored one touchdown.

After Roach graduated from Averett University with a degree in Physical Education in 2005, he stayed on with Dunlevy for one season as an assistant coach. Roach then moved away from coaching for a brief time after he accepted a job in Averett University’s admissions department.

Roach lives in Danville with his wife Heidi and is working toward his Master of Education degree at Averett.
