Matthew Carragher

Matthew Carragher joined the Averett University men's soccer staff as an assistant coach in August 2017.

Carragher came to Averett from Bluefield College, where he served as an assistant coach at his alma mater for one season. His coaching experience also includes time as a volunteer coach with Fredericksburg F.C.

Carragher played four seasons of collegiate soccer, finishing his final two seasons at NAIA Bluefield. While at Bluefield, Carragher was an National Christian College Athletic Association Honorable Mention All-American and a team captain. He helped the Rams make their first NCCAA national tournament appearance in 2014, and helped Bluefield notch its first ever conference tournament win in 2015. Prior to Bluefield, Carragher played one season at NAIA Virginia Intermont College, where he was a team captain while helping the team advance to the conference tournament final and earned all-tournament team honors. Carragher began his collegiate career at NAIA Bacone College.

Carragher's playing experience also includes time with Chesterfield United and Fredericksburg F.C. of the National Premier Soccer League.

Additionally at Averett, Carragher served as the interim mens' golf head coach from March until May in 2019.

A native of Clara, Ireland, Carragher earned his bachelor's degree in exercise and sports management from Bluefield in 2016. He is currently pursuing his master's degree in business administration from Averett.
