Derrick Borlie joined the Averett University wrestling program as an assistant coach in September 2022.

A native of Winchester, Virginia, Borlie joins the Cougars' program with a wealth of experience as a Division I collegiate wrestler. While at the University of Wisconsin, he was on scholarship and was ranked in the top 20 in the 197-pound weight class and was the 2010 Junior FILA National Champion while at Wisconsin. He later competed for Virginia Tech's wrestling program and was a Division I national qualifier, going 2-2 at the 2013 NCAA national tournament.

In high school at Millbrook, Borlie was a four-time Virginia state placer and two-time Virginia state champion, finishing third, second, first and first during his four years. He also is one of the few Virginia wrestlers to ever hit the 200-win milestone with a record of 202-10. Borlie was fourth in Virginia in all-time wins before graduating. He capped off his illustrious high school career with becoming the NHSCA Senior National Champion and making the finals at Fargo, placing second at the USA Wrestling Junior National Championships.
