Darrien Dalton was added to the Averett University football staff as the wide receivers coach in 2026.
Dalton arrives in Danville after a collegiate playing career at two schools, the latest being at Division-II Chowan University in 2025. Dalton played as both a receiver and cornerback, and was a contributor on special teams. He earned the team’s special teams player of the year honors.
Dalton began his college career at fellow conference school Elizabeth City State University, where he played wide receiver and contributed on multiple special teams units from 2021-25. While with the Vikings, Dalton gained experience on the coaching staff as a student assistant. Dalton was involved in scouting and film breakdown, mentored younger players and helped evaluate talent.
Dalton also served as a volunteer wide receivers coach at his alma mater, Western Guilford High School in Greensboro, North Carolina in the summer of 2022. In that role, he planned and led position-specific drills focused on route precision, release technique and hand-eye coordination. He also assisted with summer scouting, offensive preparation and play-calling during 7-on-7 competitions.
Hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, Dalton earned his Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership at Chowan University in 2026. He also received his Bachelor of Arts in Digital Media from Elizabeth City State University in 2025.
