DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's tennis lost its spring season opener 7-2 to Guilford College on Saturday afternoon at home.
 
Sophomores Annalies Jobsis and Riley Smith claimed one of the wins in doubles play at the No. 3 spot, defeating Guilford's Mara Stern and Luci Gordon 8-4.
 
In her first year with Averett's tennis program, sophomore Angelica Orlikowski beat Gordon to clinch her first victory in the No. 6 singles match 6-2, 6-2.
 
Averett returns to action on March 7 at noon to begin conference play against Maryville College at the Averett Tennis Courts.
