ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — N.C. Wesleyan College scored three goals in the second period to pull away from the Averett University women's soccer team with a 4-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Scalf Field.
Averett (6-6, 4-4 USA South) held off the Battling Bishops up until the 40th minute. N.C. Wesleyan's Lauren Seegel scored on a through ball from Marissa Aguilar to put the Bishops up 1-0 before the break.
Aguilar notched the second goal to extend the lead using a deflection off a corner, and N.C. Wesleyan netted two more goals in the 70th and 86th minutes. Averett goalkeeper
Bailee Brown finished with seven saves.
The Cougars return to action on Saturday, Oct. 15, to host Greensboro College during Averett's homecoming at 1 p.m.
