DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis team swept Lees-McRae College 9-0 in non-conference action on Thursday at the Averett Tennis Courts.
 
Freshmen Caius Blomqvist and Lauri Soome kicked off the afternoon on the right foot for Averett, defeating their doubles competition by a score of 8-5. Junior James Wright and freshman Nicolas Yanas picked up an 8-4 victory, while junior Carlos Lora and senior Nicolas Quevedo finished off the Cougars' doubles sweep of the Bobcats in a solid 8-0 win.
 
Soome gave Averett the early momentum in singles action as he defeated Garrett Lakey by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Wright followed that with a 6-4, 6-0 win and Yanes defeated the Bobcats' Cole Douglas Fields 6-2, 6-0. Quevedo coasted to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Brandon Caldwell and Lora took his match by a score of 6-4, 6-0.
 
The Cougars take the court again on Saturday when they host Emory & Henry College at the Averett Tennis Courts.
