ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. – The third-seeded Averett University men's tennis team beat No. 6 seed Ferrum College 7-2 in the quarterfinals of the USA South Conference Tournament at N.C. Wesleyan College on Friday afternoon.
Averett (14-3), ranked 20th in the region, went into singles play with a 2-1 advantage. In doubles play, junior
Nicolas Quevedo and freshman
Abdugani Ganiev defeated Anh Hoang and
Kevin Ramirez 8-5 at the No. 2 spot while sophomore
Carlos Lora and freshman
Ariel Prieto outlasted Caleb Bellamy and Garrett Freese with a 9-7 victory at No. 3.
Later on, Averett clinched five of the six singles matches over Ferrum (10-8). Quevedo and Ganiev along with freshmen
Oliver Lindqvist and
Alfonso Jimenez and sophomore
James Wright pulled out solo wins.
Averett will play No. 2 seed Methodist University on Saturday, April 16, at 2 p.m.
