DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University women's tennis swept conference foe Mary Baldwin College 9-0 during its Senior Day match, but the Cougars dropped their second match of the day 8-1 to Meredith College Sunday at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Averett (4-11, 2-8 USA South) notched their second conference victory in as many days by blanking Mary Baldwin to open the day. The Cougars swept all three doubles matches before taking all six singles matches in straight sets. Both Cougars celebrating Senior Day earned wins against the Squirrels. Senior

Olivia Scott to win 8-2 at No. 2 doubles, and Gomes won her No. 4 singles match 7-6, 6-2. Sophomore

The Cougars had their winning streak snapped by Meredith later in the afternoon. The Avenging Angels took all three doubles competitions, including a tight 9-8 victory at No. 1 doubles. Averett's lone point came at No. 1 singles, where freshman
Heidi Sarkkinen dispatched Ran Zhang 6-0, 6-3. Sarkkinen, ranked 24th in the South Atlantic Region, remained undefeated in singles play this season and is now 14-0 after her pair of singles wins Sunday.
The Cougars travel to Greensboro College on Friday for a rescheduled match from earlier this year.
