DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's soccer team suffered a tough 5-0 conference loss Saturday afternoon to Methodist University.
The Monarchs (3-4, 3-1 USA South) scored their first goal midway in the first half when Taylor Cavazos netted the ball from the left side to put Methodist ahead 1-0 early. While Averett (5-2, 3-1 USA South) worked to hold off the Monarchs for the remainder of the half, Methodist put away two more goals, including a penalty kick in the 56th minute.
The Monarchs maintained control of the ball for the majority of the game, which hindered the Cougars' ability to get in good field position to score.
Averett sophomore goalkeeper
Bailee Brown totaled 11 saves for the game.
The Cougars are back in action Sept. 25 to host N.C. Wesleyan College in a USA South Conference matchup at 4 p.m.
