DEMOREST, Ga.— The Averett University men's soccer team suffered a 1-0 setback in double overtime at Piedmont College on Saturday afternoon in conference action.

The first half was a tightly contested ball game as the Cougars (4-10-2, 3-6-1 USA South) held a slight advantage in shots (5-3) while Piedmont (9-4-0, 6-3-0 USA South) was able to edge Averett in corner kicks (2-1). However, neither side could capitalize on their opportunities on goal and the game was scoreless heading into halftime.

The Cougars came out of the break in action firing on all cylinders offensively and it showed as Averett created three corners and a shot in the first three minutes of the second half. At this point, Piedmont started to pick up their own offensive game as they were just edged in shots (6-4) to Averett at the end of regulation. Alike the first half, no one was able to score and the match entered overtime.

Averett controlled the first overtime period as the they were able to limit the Lions to one shot while the Cougars were able to produce three shots and a corner kick. After 100 minutes of play, though, the score was still all knotted at zero.

The Lions quickly found the back of the net to start the second overtime period as they tallied the game-winner in the 102
nd minute. Victor Munoz scored off a free kick to help his team prevail over Averett, 1-0.

The Cougars head to Brevard College on Sunday, Oct. 22, for an afternoon matinee against the Tornados. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
