DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis team beat Guilford College 9-0 in its home opener on Sunday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
 
Averett (3-1) claimed three quick wins over Guilford in doubles and then had four winners who bounced back from behind to snag the Cougars' first win of the spring season.
 
No. 1 Caius Blomqvist defeated Tate Godwin 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 as No. 2 Lauri Soome took a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Mesa Martorell. Later on, senior Nicolas Quevedo won his match 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 at the No. 4 spot and No. 6 Ariel Prieto defeated his opponent Mason Church 4-6, 6-4, 10-6.
 
Averett returns to action on Saturday, March 4, when it begins conference play against Methodist University at 2 p.m.
