Men's tennis cruises past William Peace in conference home match

DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's tennis eased past conference foe William Peace University, sweeping the Pacers 9-0 on Saturday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.

Averett (5-3, 2-2 USA South) was dominant in doubles play, taking all three matches. Junior James Wright and freshman Nicolas Yanes earned an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles, while the tandem of sophomore Ariel Prieto and freshman Mathias Reusch notched an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Abdugani Ganiev and freshman Jon Smith also secured an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 spot.

Wright fended off Patrick Newsome at No. 1 singles for a victory of 4-6, 6-1, 10-8. All other singles matches were won by the Cougars in straight sets.

Averett travels to face non-conference foe Chowan University on Wednesday.
