MURFREESBORO, N.C. – Division II Chowan University beat the Averett University men's tennis team 7-2 in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon.

Averett (6-4) took a 2-1 lead after doubles to go into singles play with an advantage. Freshman Nicolas Yanes and junior James Wright defeated their opponents in No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 win while senior Nicolas Quevedo and sophomore Abdugani Ganiev snagged an 8-4 victory at the No. 3 spot. 

Unfortunately for Averett, Chowan claimed six wins in singles to seal the match. 

Averett returns to action on Saturday when it resumes conference play against Ferrum College. The Cougars will travel to Ferrum for a 2 p.m. match.
