DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis team won 6-3 in a conference matchup against regionally ranked Methodist University on Saturday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Averett (10-4, 7-2 USA South) got off to a strong start with two wins in the doubles matches, collecting points from freshmen
Caius Blomqvist's and
Lauri Soome's 8-1 victory at the No. 1 spot, as well as an 8-6 victory in the No.2 doubles by junior
James Wright and freshman
Nicolas Yanes.
Later on, the Cougars claimed four wins in the singles matches, including Soome's 6-2, 6-3, victory at No. 2 singles and
Nicolas Quevedo's 7-5, 5-7, 7-5 victory at No. 5 singles against Methodist (12-3, 7-3 USA South), which is ranked 16th in the region.
Averett returns to the courts Sunday at 2 p.m. to face N.C. Wesleyan College in its final home match of the season. The Cougars will honor Quevedo, the lone senior, prior to the match.
