— The Averett University women's tennis team lost 8-1 in a conference matchup to regionally ranked Methodist University on Saturday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Averett (7-7, 4-2 USA South) fell behind Methodist (14-6, 7-0 USA South) as the Monarchs took all three doubles matches. Sophomore
Heidi Sarkkinen collected the only point for the Cougars during the match when she won at the No.1 spot, with a score of 7-5, 7-5, to remain unbeaten in singles play this spring. However, Methodist, ranked 10th in the region, won the remaining five points to seal the victory.
Averett returns to the courts Sunday at 2 p.m.to face N.C. Wesleyan College in the Cougars' home finale and final test before the USA South Conference Tournament.
