DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis team lost 7-2 to nationally ranked conference foe N.C. Wesleyan College on Sunday afternoon to finish the regular season.
Averett (10-4, 7-3 USA South) won one out of three in doubles matches against N.C. Wesleyan (17-4, 10-0 USA South), which is ranked 27th in the nation and seventh in the region. The Cougars got a victory at the No. 2 spot as junior James Wright and freshman Nicolas Yanes teamed up for an 8-6 win over David Chang and Mark Sokolov.
Senior Nicolas Quevedo, who was recognized during a Senior Day ceremony before the match, brought home the only singles win. Quevedo won 6-4, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot against Sokolov.
The Cougars will travel to LaGrange, Georgia, Thursday for the USA South Conference Tournament. Averett earned the No. 2 seed in the East Division and will play West Division No. 3 seed Huntingdon College at 10 a.m.
