DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's tennis team fell short to N.C. Wesleyan College 7-2 in conference action on Sunday afternoon.
The Cougars' two wins involved sophomore
Heidi Sarkkinen. Averett (7-8, 4-3 USA South) trailed 2-1 going into singles play as Sarkkinen and junior
Hannah Mattson claimed a 9-8 win in doubles. Sarkkinen then defeated her opponent 6-3, 6-1 in No. 1 singles. With the win, this is Sarkkinen's second consecutive spring that she has gone undefeated in singles play. N.C. Wesleyan (15-6, 8-0 USA South) took five victories in singles play.
The Cougars' next stop will be in LaGrange, Georgia, to play in the USA South Conference Tournament on Wednesday, April 13. Averett will face Covenant College in the first round of the tournament.
