DANVILLE, Va. — Freshman
Baste Endresen strikes for his first collegiate goal 56 seconds in overtime to power the Averett University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Huntingdon College on senior day Sunday afternoon on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Â
Averett (3-13-1, 1-9-1 USA South) battled throughout the match nearly taking an early 1-0 lead in the 4th minute when freshman
Erik Blick headed a ball that was turned away by the Hawks goaltender. Senior
Sean Dunbar had a chance seven minutes later when he ripped a shot that was also saved by the Hawks.Â
Â
The Cougars had two more scoring chances in the first half to take a 1-0 lead, the first of those two coming from freshman
Nick Price and the second from Dunbar in the 30th minute, however, Huntingdon held the Cougars scoreless in the first half.Â
Â
Averett did not waste time early in the second half jumping out to an early 1-0 advantage as Senior
Jake Searcy laced a ball to the back of the Huntingdon net off a perfectly placed cross by freshman
Kellen Fees for his second score in as many days.Â
Â
Huntingdon (3-12-1, 2-8-1 USA South) managed to even that match in the 86th minute when Hunter Hall played a punt off the Cougars back line that he took wide and beat the Averett goalie to the far post.Â
Â
However, the Cougars did not miss a beat following the goal as 56 seconds into the opening overtime period freshman Lluc Pou played a ball outside the 18-yard box to the feet of Endresen that the freshman snuck past the outstretch arms of the Hawks goalkeeper for the game-winning score.Â
Â
Sunday featured two celebrations for the Cougars as club recognized its five seniors

Christian Hester,
Huso Dukic,
Sean Dunbar and Jake Seacy prior to kickoff.
Â
The Cougars close out the 2018 regular-season Friday, Oct. 26 as they host Piedmont College at 4 p.m.
