LYNCHBURG, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis team swept Randolph College 9-0 in non-conference action on Sunday.
Sophomore Nicolas Yanes and freshman Henry Blanco kicked off the afternoon on the right foot for Averett, defeating their doubles competition by a score of 8-0. Freshman Felipe Andreazza and freshman Douwe Sternfield picked up an 8-4 victory, while freshman Trevor Ramagos and Abdugani Ganiev finished off the Cougars doubles sweep of the Wildcats in a solid 8-1 win.
Yanes gave Averett the early momentum in singles action as he defeated Brad Strober by a score of 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. Blanco followed that with a 6-4, 6-0 win and freshman Simon Levinsson defeated the Wildcats Edgar Ellis 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Tom Woodcock took his match in three sets 4-6, 6-1,6-1 over Joe Kaneda. Freshman Alvaro Jimenez and sophomore Jon Smith each helped the Cougars with a win in singles both with the score of 6-0,6-0.
The Cougars take the court again when they travel to Ferrum, Virginia on Tuesday to face Ferrum College in conference action at 4:30 p.m.
