FERRUM, Va. — Freshman
Keshawn Downing scored a pair of goals and two other Cougars scored their first career goals in the Averett University men's lacrosse team's 24-4 loss at Ferrum College on Wednesday night.
Downing added his team-best seventh and eighth goals of the season for Averett (0-5, 0-2 USA South), which is in its inaugural season. Fellow freshmen
Joonas Mattila and
Nick Delapena also added their first career goals for the Cougars.
Ferrum (3-5, 2-1 USA South) jumped out to a 9-0 lead by halftime and built a 13-0 lead before Downing scored unassisted at the 8:06 mark of the third quarter. Mattila added his goal with 3:14 left in the frame off a pass from freshman
Brenner Woodcock.
Woodcock finished with two assists and freshman
Bryan Minaya notched an assist on Delapena's goal.
