DANVILLE, Va. — Averett University men's tennis defeated Southern Virginia University 5-4 Monday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts in a non-conference match.
Averett (8-4) emerged from doubles play ahead 2-1 in the match. Freshmen Douwe Sternfield and Felipe Andreazza won at No. 1 doubles 8-4 over T.J. Snelson and Tanner O'Brien.
Sternfield also was victorious at No. 3 singles, beating Snelson 6-2, 6-0. At No. 5 singles, senior Carlos Lora won against Southern Virginia's Andrew Blonquist 6-3,6-4. Freshman Thomas Woodcock completed the singles play for the Cougars at the No.6 defeating Zac Bowers 6-3,6-3.
Averett also got wins over Southern Virginia (11-2) at No. 3 doubles.
The Cougars will return to action on Tuesday, they will play William Peace University in conference action at 3 p.m.
