DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis team faced Ferrum College in two matches winning them both 9-0 on Friday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
In Match 1, Averett (11-4, 4-2 USA South) claimed three quick wins over Ferrum (0-15,0-10 USA South) in doubles and then completed the sweep with six straight wins in singles play.
No.1 sophomore Nicolas Yanes defeated Kevin Ramirez 8-2 as No.2 senior Carlos Lora took a 8-0 victory over Marshall Owenby-Connolly. Later on, freshman Simon Levinsson won his match 8-0 at the No. 3 spot. Freshmen Trevor Ramagos, Alvaro Jimenez, and sophomore Jon Smith also collected wins.
In the nightcap, in No.1 doubles freshman Felipe Andreazza and Lora gained an 8-2 win to set the tone for the Cougars. Freshman Abdugani Ganiev and partner Levisson won their match at the No.2 spot 8-2. To finish up doubles was Jimenez and Smith getting the win 8-1. The Cougars went on to complete the day with six wins in singles.
Averett returns to action on Sunday, April 8, when it travels to Greensboro, North Carolina to play Greensboro College in conference play at 11:30 a.m.
