FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Averett University men's tennis won a doubles draw and two doubles consolations draws and a consolation singles final victory as play concluded at the Methodist University Fall Invitational on Saturday.
The Averett duo of junior
Alvaro Jimenez and freshman
Evgeniy Bogdasaryan won the Flight 4 doubles by taking down Methodist's Spencer Kieft and Kyle Klinek, 8-5. The Cougars also took the Flight 4 doubles consolation as senior
Mathias Reusch and sophomore
Fabian Howding teamed up to beat Division II Barton College's Cameron Johnson and Lisandro Torresani, 8-6.
Averett also got a doubles consolation draw win in Flight 3 from juniors
Simon Levinsson and
Thomas Woodcock, who beat a combined duo of Methodist's Samir Tewari and Division II University of Mount Olive's Gregory Normand, 8-7 (10-8).
In Flight 2 doubles, the Cougars' duo of junior
Stan Martherus and freshman
Jorge Figueroa won the consolation third-place match be beating Methodist's Henry Blanco and Lucas Dunlop, 8-6. In Flight 1 doubles, senior
Nicolas Yanes and sophomore
Patrick Shields fell to Methodist's Coleman Baker and Trent Harner, 8-4, in the consolation final.
Singles play also concluded on Saturday afternoon and evening following a weather delay.
At Flight 7 singles, the consolation final pitted Reusch and Jimenez against each other, with Reusch taking an 8-1 victory. Bogdasaryan took third place in Flight 5 singles, edging Mount Olive's Juan Arkelaez 8-7 (10-6). Averett also got a consolation third-place victory from Figueroa in Flight 1 when he took down Harner from Methodist, 8-4.
At Flight 6 singles, Howding fell in the third-place match, 8-3, to Barton's Bradley Beck. Levinson also dropped his Flight 4 singles consolation third-place match, falling to Guilford College's Drake Schreiber, 8-4. Shields list his third-place consolation draw in Flight 3 by an 8-4 score to Guilford's Joe Horne.
Yanes lost his Flight 2 singles consolation final to Guilford's Elijah Gregory, 8-4. Also in Flight 2, Matherus fell, 8-3, in the third-place match to Mount Olive's Paul Sitkeiwiez.
