DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University men's tennis team defeated Division II Lees-McRae College 7-2 on Monday afternoon at the Averett Tennis Courts.
Averett (3-1) got off to a good start by sweeping all three doubles matches against Lees-McRae (4-4). The tandem of junior
Nicolas Yanes and freshman
Patrick Shields earned an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles, while senior
Abdugani Ganiev and freshman
Fabian Howding teamed up for an 8-7 win at the No. 2 spot. Junior
Mathias Reusch and sophomore
Simon Levinsson won 8-3 at No. 3 doubles.
Ahead 3-0, Averett got a straight-set win from Ganiev at No. 3 singles before Yanes clinched the match with a victory at No. 1 singles with a 7-6, 6-2, win over Miodrag Popovic. Howding and Levinsson also earned singles wins at the No. 5 and No. 6 spots, respectively.
Averett's next scheduled match is March 10 at Virginia Wesleyan University.
