Men's tennis challenges N.C. Wesleyan in USA South semifinals on Saturday at 10 a.m.

The Series: Averett is 7-19 against N.C. Wesleyan dating back to 2001. The Cougars haven't beat the Battling Bishops since 2007, as they are a perennial powerhouse within the conference.
Averett at a Glance: The Cougars finished their 2018-19 regular season with a 9-6 (5-4 USA South) overall record, which helped them earn a No. 18 ranking in the ITA Atlantic South Region. Averett won two of its last three games to close out the regular season. The Cougars picked up a 5-3 win over LaGrange College in the opening round of the tournament.
N.C. Wesleyan at a Glance: The Battling Bishops finished their regular season with a 19-2 (10-0 USA South) record. This was good enough to earn the team a bye in the opening round of the tournament.
Consistent winning: This marks the fourth consecutive season that Averett has finished with a winning record both overall and in conference play. This has led to the team making its fourth straight appearance in the conference tournament. Additionally, with the win over LaGrange, this is the fourth consecutive season where the Cougars have made it to at least the semifinals of the conference tournament.
Presence in the Tournament:  Dating back to 2006, the first year the USA South Conference Tournament operated in a bracket, Averett is 11-11 in tournament games, making nine appearances in the semifnals and three appearances in the championship match. Competing in the tournament in each of the past three seasons, the Cougars have won their opening round match to advance to the semifinals in all three instances. This includes the 2017 tournament, where Averett advanced to the championship match.
All-Conference Selections: Representing Averett when USA South All-Conference selections were released on Thursday were senior Abdugani Ganiev and junior Nicolas Yanes on the Honorable Mention Team. Ganiev compiled a 9-7 record in singles play on the season, including a 4-1 record in No. 3 singles, while going 6-8 in doubles play, including 5-5 in No. 2 doubles. Meanwhile, Yanes played in the No. 1 spot in both singles and doubles all season for the Cougars, tallying an 8-7 record in doubles play. Additionally, freshman Fabian Howding was named to the USA South All-Sportsmanship team.
