DANVILLE, Va. — The Averett University women's soccer team dropped its 2019 season opener by a final of 4-1 on Friday evening to rival Ferrum College.
Ferrum (1-0) benefited from the first of three goals on the evening by Casey Raggett at the 6:37 mark of the opening half to carry a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Alex Mattson added a goal just under 10 minutes into the second half to extend the Panthers lead to 2-0, before Raggett netted the remaining two scores to push the lead to 4-0.

Kirsten Clancy launched a free ball from the 30 yard line, that tipped off the fingers of Ferrum's goal keeper and landed in the upper left corner of the net.
The Panthers finished with a 26-5 shot advantage on the evening, landing 17 shots on frame, while sophomore
Morgann Dills collected 12 saves in net for the Cougars in her first collegiate start in net.
Averett returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Harrisonburg, Virginia for a 2 p.m. meeting with Eastern Mennonite University.
