LYNCHBURG, Va.
— The Averett University men's soccer team earned its first win of the 2019 season with a 3-0 victory on the road over Randolph College on Saturday.
Averett (1-3) struck early as sophomore
Patrick Miller scored his first collegiate goal in the 11th minute of play off an assist from sophomore
Kellen Fees. Sophomore
Johnny Kummander struck shortly after that with a goal of his own in the 15th minute to give Averett a 2-0 lead, one the Cougars would maintain heading into the halftime break as they kept Randolph (0-3-1) scoreless.
Averett kept the momentum going in the second half with a goal from sophomore
Owen Story on a penalty kick, his second of the season that gave the Cougars a 3-0 lead. Averett maintained this lead for the remainder of the game to hold on for its first win of the season.
As a team, the Cougars took eight shots, six of which were on goal, led by Kummander's three shots. In goal, junior
Colton Dutchess made four saves and earned his first career shutout.
Averett looks to keep the momentum going when it takes on Hampden-Sydney College on the road on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
