BLUEFIELD, Va. — In its first match of the 2020 season, the Averett University women's tennis team swept Bluefield College on the road, 7-0, on Saturday.
The Cougars kept the momentum going in singles play, where Bachmann won at the No. 1 spot, 6-1, 6-4, which was the clinching point of the match, and Crane was victorious in the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-3. In No. 3 singles, Hovhammar earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory as well while Zeilstra followed that up with a 6-3, 6-0 win in No. 4 singles. Then, freshman Alejandra Garcia won in No. 5 singles, 6-1, 6-3 while freshman Nakia-Lee Goodall won by default in the No. 6 spot to secure the sweep for Averett.
The Cougars return to action on Feb. 29 at 1 p.m. when they take on Randolph College on the road at 1 p.m.
